The Mutable Net Repository is a collectively-built repository on the practice of Wireless Community Networks. It is aimed at creating a space to archive experimentation and gather critical, conceptual and practical knowledge on alternative infrastructures. As results of a lab series the outcomes can be explored and integrated with new materials on the following pages:
Each of the experiences above is aimed at being reproduced and adapted to different contexts, and is created to explore the various facets of the practice of Wireless Community Networks. The first one, Reshaping Nodes, aims to create a space to explore the physicality of a mesh node and transform it into a technical object generated to respond to collective needs in various contexts. With Hacking Devices, an archive of successes and failures shall be created based on hands-on flashing of connectivity devices with free and open software; here, nodes become communitarian tools that respond to the needs of the collectivity, reflecting the flexibility of the system introduced in the first physical interaction. With Building the Commons, the experiences conclude with a building phase, where connections between nodes are established, and a collective agreement is discussed to ensure the commons aspect of free networking infrastructures. Through these experiences, a new, freed infrastructure is created, the governance of which is decided by its users and that is physically and technically developed to respond to the needs of the collectivity.
